How ghost mannequin is done
You send two photos
Photo 1: the garment on a mannequin. Photo 2: a close-up of the inside back of the collar, label and all.
We take the mannequin out
The mannequin is removed by hand, which leaves an empty gap at the back of the neck.
We fill the neck from photo 2
The inside of the collar from photo 2 is fitted into the gap, matched in shape and light.
Reshaped and symmetrical
The garment is reshaped so collar, shoulders, sleeves and hem are level on both sides, and made 100% symmetrical on demand. A second editor checks it.
Why studio ghost mannequin composites outperform flat lays and AI models.
Fashion buyers need to see garment drape, collar structure, and fabric fit. See how manual neck joint compositing compares to flat lays and automated AI generation.
| Feature | Reframe Studio | Flat Lay Photography | AI Virtual Models |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3D Fit & Dimension | Full 3D hollow volume with realistic depth | Flat, lifeless presentation with hidden collars | Uncanny valley distortion and hallucinated fabric folds |
| Inner Neck Joint & Label | Seamless blend with genuine brand label visible | Label hidden or warped by flat placement | Often hallucinates or scrambles brand typography |
| Symmetry & Alignment | Symmetrical shoulders, collar, and hem balance | Requires lengthy, tedious on-set pin styling | Unpredictable proportions and sleeve lengths |
| Fabric Texture Fidelity | 100% true-to-life weave, stitching, and seams | Accurate but lacks depth and motion | Often smooths away micro-texture and knit patterns |
| Catalog Consistency | Identical camera angle, scale, and crop across SKUs | Difficult to maintain consistent overhead framing | Inconsistent angles between product shots |
| Production Capacity | 1,000+ garments daily with 24h turnaround | Slow studio styling per garment | Requires extensive manual correction |

A ghost mannequin (or invisible mannequin) service composites multiple photographs of an apparel item—typically a front shot on a physical mannequin and a separate shot of the interior neck or lining—into a single dimensional image. The physical mannequin is removed, giving the garment a realistic, hollow 3D appearance as if worn by an invisible body.
Photograph the garment on a static mannequin or foam torso against a plain background. Then, remove the mannequin and take a second flat-lay photo of the inside neck, showing the brand label and inner collar. Sending both shots allows our editors to composite the inner collar into the front hollow seamlessly.
For a simple neckline, yes: our editors rebuild the inner back collar from the fabric around it, or leave a clean hollow. It looks flatter than a real inside shot, and for very complex garments we do not rebuild a missing neck at all, so a dedicated neck shot is always best.
Yes, reshaping and symmetry are part of every ghost mannequin order. We reshape the garment: line up the shoulders, straighten the collar, even out the sleeve lengths and make the hem hang level, while keeping the fabric's natural folds. 100% symmetrical is available on demand; or ask for a relaxed, natural drape instead.
Yes. For trousers, jeans, and skirts, we remove the mannequin waist and composite the inner waistband and rear lining, showing realistic depth through the waist opening and pant legs.
Outputs are delivered as pure white (#FFFFFF / RGB 255,255,255) JPEGs for Amazon and marketplace compliance, transparent PNGs for Shopify theme integration, or layered PSD/TIFF files with independent shadow and garment layers.
The minimum is two photos per garment: the garment on the mannequin from the front, and a shot of the inside neck area with the mannequin removed. We join them so the garment looks worn by an invisible model. If the garment has a visible back interior, such as an open back or a deep collar, add the same inside shot for the back. Send both every time: without the inside shot only a simple neckline can be rebuilt, and it looks flatter.
Keep the camera in the same position for both shots, ideally on a tripod, and use the same lighting. Steam or press the garment first, hide pins and clips behind the fabric, and keep the garment centered. If the camera or light moves between shots, the neck joint will not match and costs more to fix.
Simple ($0.85): a tee, tank or other garment with an open neck. Medium ($1.89): a shirt, jacket or other garment with a collar, lapel or structured shoulders. Complex ($3.99): hoods, layers, sheer fabric or a garment with several openings. Prices are per image at 24h Standard.
No. The cut-out is part of every ghost mannequin order: we use background removal or a clipping path, whichever the garment needs, and it is already in the price. There is no separate cut-out line to add. Many studios quote the mannequin work and the cut-out as two lines, so add them up when you compare.
Ghost mannequin is several jobs in one price. The cut-out (background removal or clipping path) is included. We fit the inside of the collar from your second photo (the neck joint), reshape the garment so the collar, shoulders, sleeves and hem match on both sides (100% symmetrical on demand), and a second editor checks every image. Revisions are free and unlimited for 14 days. A plain cut-out starts at $0.39, but it leaves the mannequin in the picture. When you compare quotes, add up every line: the mannequin work, the cut-out, the reshaping and any revision fee. The quickest test is to send your hardest garment as one of your 3 free sample edits. If you also need wrinkles and lint cleaned, the Ghost Mannequin Complete bundle covers both for $1.54 per image.
Sometimes for a simple neckline, but the result looks flatter and less realistic. For very complex garments we do not recreate a missing neck joint at all, so shoot the inside view. It takes a minute on set and saves a reshoot.
No. Wrinkle and fabric cleanup is Garment Retouch (from $0.55), and color or pattern changes are separate services. The Ghost Mannequin Complete bundle pairs ghost mannequin with garment retouch for $1.54 per image.
We follow the same steps on every image: neck joint, shape refinement, then export with the same settings. Send a reference image of the look you want (neck depth, shoulder shape, canvas size) and we match it across the batch.
